Moissanite is cheaper, easier to produce, and causes less environmental damage than diamond mining. Over the last few decades, public understanding of the dangers and conflict around diamond mining has grown, leading to greater adoption and acceptance of gemstones like moissanite.
Moissanite necklaces have the same luxurious, clear appearance as diamond necklaces, but they’re produced in much more ethical conditions. They’re conflict-free, often cheaper, and don’t destroy rare natural habitats.
It’s hard to spot any difference between moissanite and diamond at a distance. Dr Henri Moissan, the first to find natural moissanite, thought he was seeing diamonds at first. But, there are a few key differences between the gemstones.
Moissanite’s composition means it sparkles much more than a diamond, scattering light and colours across a room.
Diamonds are praised for their hardness and durability, and you typically need to use diamonds to cut diamonds. Moissanite is slightly softer, but not by much: Diamonds are a 10 on the Mohs hardness scale, whilst moissanite is a 9.25.
Both gemstones are incredibly durable and perfect for everyday wear.
Diamonds are well known for their incredibly clear appearance. Moissanite usually has more inclusions; it can look slightly yellow or orange up close.
Moissanite necklaces are the perfect alternative to diamond wedding necklaces because they’re more affordable and more ethical. They have the same elegant, eternal quality that has made diamond jewellery so iconic, without the baggage.
Moissanite necklaces are a great option whether you’re attending a wedding, buying a luxurious gift for someone you love, or standing out at a ball or gala. They offer you the status and power of a diamond necklace, with the added satisfaction of choosing an ethical piece of jewellery.
Moissanite necklaces have a classic, elegant beauty and are timeless pieces perfect for any situation, no matter the occasion. Take our Trio Bezel Moissanite Necklace as an example: it’s sleek, elegant, and perfect for any occasion!
Moissanite necklaces pair beautifully with matching earrings, bracelets, or rings. To create a cohesive look, match your metal colours (for example, choosing all gold jewellery). For a more distinctive look, mix your metals. (Like matching solid gold earrings with a dainty silver moissanite necklace).
You can wear multiple pieces of moissanite jewellery at once or layer them with other necklaces for a more textured look. You can also pair a singular statement moissanite necklace (like our Classic Cross Pendant Moissanite Necklace) with more minimalist earrings or bracelets.
We use 18kt gold vermeil, 14kt gold, and sterling silver in our moissanite jewllery. Our sterling silver necklaces are also plated with rhodium to protect them from corroding or tarnishing over time.
We’re committed to using recycled materials wherever possible and choosing the highest-quality metals available in Australia. Our necklaces are also crafted with frequent wear in mind.
If you don’t know which metal colour to choose for your necklace, consider how it looks against your skin tone. Cooler skin tones match best with white gold or sterling silver, while warmer skin tones look best next to warmer metals like yellow and rose gold.
You can add additional birthstones or pearls to create a unique design or add engravings and hidden details to make it more personal and meaningful. However, the size of your necklace’s pendant or chain limits the size of any engravings you want to include.
Personalised necklaces also take longer to produce, so order them in advance so you get them in time!
If you have any questions about our personalisation process, our customer service team are always happy to help!
